Job Description Summary

To operate the Power Station under the direction of the Shift Team Leader, conducting routine shift duties and taking emergency action, where necessary, to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the power station.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

• To operate and monitor the plant; Distributed Control System, HMI, Continuous Emissions Monitoring, and all other control room and station control systems to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the plant and process

• Support and ensure compliance with all site Quality Procedures, Work Instructions and EHS Policy and Procedures

• Ensure Station operates within customer IPPC license limits

• Understand and respond to variances in normal station operating parameters and take necessary corrective actions to maintain safe operation of the station

• Monitor plant and process to ensure that operation is in accordance with all relevant Operating Procedures and follows National Grid instructions

• Carry out plant water chemistry where required and adjust as necessary to keep within prescribed operating limits

• Report equipment deficiencies beyond the scope and capabilities of shift personnel to Shift Team Leader and log in the site CMMS.

• Maintain and update all routines, schedules and reports with relevant plant operating data

• Report unsafe conditions, events and hazards to the Shift Team Leader

• Work a cycling shift-pattern and from time to time where necessary, step outside of shift pattern for training, changing shift team, covering and project work

Qualifications/Requirements :

• Mechanical or Electrical diploma/degree or equivalent applicable trade or equivalent knowledge or experience

• Strong computer skills and familiar with Outlook, Word and Excel

• Ability to fluently speak and write in the English language

• Proactive, accurate and detail oriented

• Effective time management with an ability to work on own initiative

Desired Characteristics :

• Power Plant experience

• Engineering based qualification

• Experience working with IT systems, database and web-based packages

• Working in a customer focused environment and liaising with internal and external agencies

• Working in a multi skilled team
