Summary

A Yard Laborer is an hourly-rated position that performs at the American Bridge Company Storehouse Yard any combination of the duties described more fully, below. A Yard Laborer typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a crew and take direction from supervisors

  • Run heavy equipment and load trucks safely

  • Safely move, load, and unload trucks and trailers

  • Work with operator to load and off load trucks

  • Sorting and storing tools in the warehouse and in container boxes.

  • Filling job tool and small equipment requests. Readying these lists for shipping.

  • Knowledge of tools and their operation.

    Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.

  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.

  • Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.

  • The candidate must have excellent diagnostic skills and a willingness to continue to improve technical knowledge and ability.

  • The ability to communicate well and get along with others is an important attribute for the success of this position.

  • This candidate must possess a professional attitude, as well as the willingness to work the necessary hours to meet all customer needs.

  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day, Monday through Friday. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Essential Duties.

  • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.

  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

  • Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, power tools, and hand tools.

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather

  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

    Work Environment

  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions.

  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.

  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the yard, including the activities of other employees, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
