OVERVIEW:

The Tax Accountant is a member of the Finance Department and is primarily responsible for the preparation of sales & use, escheats, and miscellaneous business tax returns. Additionally, the Tax Accountant will assist the Tax Manager & Senior Tax Accountant with audits and overall sales & use tax administration including monitoring use tax accruals and implementing POS system changes. This role will be part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment whose focus is on personal development and supporting organizational goals.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our external service provider to facilitate the timely and accurate filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use tax returns. This will involve consolidating data from various sources and preparing related monthly sales & use tax return reconciliations and journal entries.

  • Timely implementation of all POS systems changes for sales tax rate changes, sales tax holidays and new store set up. This requires a regular review of jurisdictional legislative changes and updates to ensure the most up-to-date information is reflected in the systems.

  • Implementation and maintenance of integrated systems for POS and Ecommerce tax calculations to ensure accurate transactional data within reporting systems.

  • Assist the Tax Manager and Senior Tax Accountant with tax audits and overall sales and use tax administration by collecting data and performing technical research on sales & use tax topics. This involves reviewing audit requests, compiling necessary documentation, and providing explanations and support for sales tax positions taken by the company.

  • Collaborate with accounts payable, accounting personnel, and other stakeholders to determine the proper sales & use tax treatment of expense payables and capital purchases and ensuring that sales and use tax impacts are property reflected in the financial statements.

  • Support the Tax Manager and Senior Tax Accountant in completing miscellaneous quarterly and annual state filings to ensure the company remains compliant with business regulations.

  • Monitor tax-related legislative changes to determine impacts to the company. Conduct thorough research on tax matters to guarantee compliance with evolving tax regulations

  • Assists with preparation of Escheat report filings. by collaborating with internal teams to gather necessary escheat records and assisting in drafting and sending Due Diligence letters to rightful owners of unclaimed property.

  • Research and document indirect tax questions as they arise. Ensure timely responses to customer and store sales tax-related questions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
