Sylvan Learning Tutor/Teacher - Part time in Coquitlam, British Columbia

Sylvan teachers are responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 in Reading, Writing and Math. All students are taught in a small student-teacher ratio, and using Sylvan program materials. We differ from other tutoring centres in that we provide you with the materials to teach. No lesson planning, parent meetings or take-home work! We are looking for a commitment of minimum three days per week during the following times: * Monday through Friday afternoons/evenings from 3:30-7:30pm * Saturday mornings from 9:30-1:30pm ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Prepares for each instructional session; gathers and prepares materials as appropriate * Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student * Instructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programs * Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session * Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment * Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn * Motivates students with Sylvan tokens, and records/tracks tokens earned by students * Communicates specific student needs to centre staff * Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed * Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * Teaching credentials OR attending post-secondary (minimum 3rd year) with the intention of pursuing education * Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED * Knowledge of iPads, Zoom, Google Drive/Docs and Microsoft Word * Have strong communication skills (written and verbal) in English * Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students of all ages to learn * Ability to multi-task and be flexible * Have a reliable form of transportation COVID-19 PROTOCOLS * Mask-wearing as a personal choice for students and staff For additional information about Sylvan, please visit our website: www.sylvanlearning.com
