Orbex Space Test Conductor in Copenhagen, Denmark

At Orbex we are looking for a Test Conductor to join our test team in Faxe.

Ideally you will feel comfortable taking responsibility for preparation of configuration files, software testing, and pre-test activities ahead of the procedure.

You will be an important part of the test team and will be deeply involved in the testing of articles for spaceflight.

We are well placed to be one of the first operational micro-launch companies in Europe with over €85m of project financing secured, a number of customers signed up, our launch licence application submitted, and backing from organisations including UKSA and ESA.

We are a rapidly growing company with staff located between our production and test facilities in Forres, Scotland and Copenhagen, Denmark. Working on cutting-edge advances in rocket fuel technology, Prime’s carbon footprint is up to 96% lower than comparable vehicles, leading to innovations in propulsion and tank structures. A state-of-the-art re-flight system means we can recover and reuse our technology, and innovations in separation mechanisms mean we leave no debris in space.

Having developed in-house production capability, we can 3D print complex engines, produce full-scale carbon composite fuel tanks, and have avionics and software testing labs in both Scotland and Denmark. Based in Forres, you will be right in the heart of this fast-paced cutting-edge company, gaining a unique insight into what it takes to build a new launch vehicle for a buoyant commercial market.

The Position

The position includes the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conducting various types of propulsion testing from control room  

  • Closely following regulations and procedures to ensure accurate and safe environment for testing of our fluid, pressurised line, hydraulic and rocket engine systems

  • Preparing configuration files, safety critical software and communication systems

  • Software testing and software implementation

  • Responsible for keeping the software and test control room ready

  • Responsible for backup data and preparing files for analysis

  • Maintaining CCTV system to ensure overview during tests

    Essential information:

    This role will require significant time working in our test mission control room in Faxe, regardless of weather.

    Essential Qualifications and Experience:

     

  • Experience as a process engineer, test control engineer or test conductor

  • Experience working in control room environment for safety critical systems like space, aerospace, nuclear, O&G and similar

  • Understanding the physical structure and functionality of the test rigs and benches, such as gas lines, valves, electrical signal cables, and sensors

  • Experience or interest in aerospace testing and test facilities

  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English

  • MS Office tools, full proficiency expected

  • Staying level-headed and keeping an overview in case of emergency

    Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Python, C/C+

    • Experience with PowerShell scripting
  • Experience with Epsilon3

  • Knowledge of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (reading and drawing)

  • Experience with IT

  • General understanding of maintenance tools

    Location

    This role is based in Copenhagen at Orbex’s Danish propulsion engineering and manufacturing site as well as our test site in Faxe.

    You will be spending time both at the factory and our nearby rocket engine testing site, with occasional travel to our main factory, test and launch sites in Scotland.
