Position Type

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and upkeep of the Citys Housing managed facilities and grounds. This is primarily accomplished by making repairs, obtaining materials and pricing equipment to be used for maintenance.

Please Note:An offer of employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a fingerprint screening. If the incumbent fails to obtain clearance through the fingerprint screening, they will not be able to access all necessary City buildings and therefore, may be subject to termination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic carpentry, building and plumbing repairs.
  • Inventories and purchases material needed for projects
  • Performs regular maintenance and servicing of shop and hand tool equipment.
  • Prepares vacant units for occupancy by performing basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintains reports and daily logs of work progress.
  • Reports for after hour call backs on a rotating schedule.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Knowledge:

  • Carpentry principles and practices
  • Plumbing principles and practices
  • Electrical principles and practices
  • Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Drivers License

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency and at least six-months to one (1) year of advanced study, with over one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
