Pet Food Express Sr Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis in Concord, California

Pet Food Express is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis to elevate our FP&A team. Reporting directly to the CFO and partnering closely with senior leadership, this is a highly visible role that will provide the financial backbone of critical decision-making to enhance financial performance and support the Pet Food Express’ long-term objectives. We’re looking for a results-oriented leader with deep experience in providing strategic financial insights, analysis, and the ability to thrive in a high-growth environment.

Please Note: This position is a hybrid role, involving on-site work each week at our corporate headquarters in Concord, CA. Candidates who are fully remote or outside of reasonable commuting distance will not be considered at this time.

Responsibilities:

  • Forecasting:

  • Oversee Sales and Margin Forecasting, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business goals.

  • Capital and Cash Flow Management:

  • Manage capital expenditures and cash flow analysis to optimize financial resources.

  • Performance Metrics:

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial and operational performance, providing actionable insights to drive sales growth and profitability

  • Presentation Materials:

  • Create clear and compelling presentations for senior leadership, the board of directors, lenders, and other stakeholders to communicate business performance and key messages.

  • Business Case Development:

  • Lead the creation of business cases, providing decision support and hindsight analysis to guide strategic initiatives.

  • Business Partnership:

  • Collaborate with department heads to provide financial guidance, support decision-making, and drive accountability for financial performance.

  • Problem Solving:

  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a detail-oriented approach to identify solutions to complex challenges, often with limited or incomplete data. Drive implementation and track the impact of your initiatives.

  • Team Development:

  • Lead and develop FP&A team members.

    Qualifications:

  • Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA preferred.

  • 7+ years in FP&A or related financial roles, ideally within specialty or multi-unit retail industries.

  • CPA, CFA, or CMA also desired

  • Professional Experience

  • Experience with statistical programs, business intelligence tools, and relational databases preferred (SharePoint, SQL, Business Objects, etc.).

  • Expert Excel skills, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated success in leading financial planning and analysis functions.

  • Experience with leading/developing a team, with 2+ years’ direct management experience.

  • Strong ability to interpret complex financial data and convey insights clearly.

  • Communication:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven ability to foster cooperative and respectful working relationships.

  • Problem Solving:

  • Sound decision-making skills to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism.

  • Comfortable with change, risk, and uncertainty, able to shift priorities effectively.

  • Proactive, able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.

  • Organization:

  • Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and follow-up capabilities.

    The salary range for this position is expected to be $170,000/yr-$185,000/yr. Pet Food Express determines starting salary based on many factors, including but not limited to, local market rate, the qualified pool of candidates, internal compensation practices, a candidate’s actual skills and experience.
