This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Position Summary: HR Generalist is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies and programs for the American Chemical Society (ACS).The HR team has the challenge of achieving exceptional customer satisfaction, thus having a direct impact on the value and quality of HR solutions. The customer base is diverse, including current, former, and potential employees, management business partners, American Chemical Society members, HR Team members and outside vendors. The Columbus HR team directly serves approximately 1300 Columbus-based employees and indirectly serves 600 Washington, D.C.-based employees. There are also several locations outside the United States. HR is responsible for the benefits and compensation programs for the organization and for coordinating HR efforts and programs in other areas with the HR team. To excel in our mission, the Human Resources unit must be staffed and developed as uniquely and effectively as its purpose with the organization. All staff at all levels of this imperative functional unit must demonstrate a core framework of technical and soft skills. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with HR management in supporting designated programs or functions under the broader HR umbrella. This position requires an understanding of the internal structure of the organization. The incumbent ensures all programs and processes are in compliance with all legal requirements and meet the strategic objectives related to human resources. The incumbent reports to the Office Admin Supervisor, Human Resources. Work design: Works under managerial direction. Works with established practices of the organization and the professional discipline and experience to guide actions. Resolves complex problems. Performs in-depth analyses and interpretations of non-routine problems at level 1 and escalates as needed. Work involves complex problem-solving, complex assignments, in-depth analysis, conceptual thinking, and general knowledge of a broader functional area. Job Duties: Compliance - develops and maintains affirmative action program; compiles and files VETS 4212 and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) reports. Oversees immigration & I-9 programs. Maintains current knowledge of EEO and affirmative action guidelines. Organize and analyze employment-related data and submit related reports to government agencies. Maintains compliance with federal and state employment regulations. Researches and recommends compliance action with new laws or regulations. Policies and Procedures - administers various human resource plans and procedures for all staff; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual. Answers general questions and provides guidance to managers and staff on policy interpretation and application. Applies judgment to determine when issues need to be escalated to appropriate Human Resources Business Partner.
