SMG Guest Services Ambassador in Columbus, Ohio

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Guest Services Ambassador at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Guest Services Ambassador is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of providing directions, building facilities information, and offer hospitality and tourist assistance. Serve as an usher and ticket taker for special events. Interact with clients, facility staff, in-house concessionaires, and related personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Insure highest level of customer service. * Work in Guest Services Areas providing directions, building facilities information, and event information. * Provide information on local features such as shopping, dining, nightlife, sports, and tourism attractions. * Make dining and other reservations for guests. * Maintain the appearance of the Guest Services Areas and Restaurant Guide and its brochures, maps, magazines, menus, and other hospitality publications. * Notify respective personnel when Guest Services Areas literature needs replenished. * Serve as an usher, greeter, and/or ticket taker for special events. * Complete tasks including copying, faxing, and printing. * Operate scooter, wheelchair, and cart rental and luggage and bag check. * Use a two-way radio for communication with management, security, and staff. * Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, may be required to work varying schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate business and client needs in the facility * Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet -- i.e. smiling, saying "Good Day" or offering assistance when needed. * Must feel comfortable when around large groups or speaking to a guest, as needed * Understands the importance of providing customer service and in understanding of "The Magic is in the Details" * Must obtain and maintain employer sponsored Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification, if applicable. * All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge: Should know and understand the fast pace of a large convention center. Basic computer skills required and the ability to maneuver the internet. Ability to read and understand schedules and maps. Must have the ability to account for money and make change.

Experience: A minimum of six months experience in customer service. Previous cash handling experience preferred. Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) preferred.

Skills/Aptitudes: Must have a professional appearance and a passion for customer service. Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Must have telephone etiquette. Must have eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Must be able to listen, hear, and respond to guest inquiries. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, symbols, and colors. Must be able to work independently and maintain a positive attitude within a very busy environment. This position requires the ability to interact with all types of people. Must be able to get along with co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors to the facility. This position requires the ability to respond politely to all individuals and work well as a team player.

Physical Requirements: Position requires mobility. Position requires prolonged periods of standing on feet, sitting, and walking. Ability to go up and down stairs. Occasional bending and stooping. Frequent talking and hearing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to noise, heat, and cold.
