The Ruhlin Company Field Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Columbus, Ohio

The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire a Field Heavy Equipment Mechanic. This position will work primarily in the areas of Columbus, Mansfield and surrounding areas.

Position Summary: Perform a variety of routine and complex repairs and maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform all maintenance and repairs of heavy equipment, machinery, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Service equipment per Company maintenance schedules and inspection reports.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and make necessary repairs, adjustments, and replacements.

  • Inspect, lubricate, and service equipment.

  • Check, fill, and/or change fluids for all equipment parts and check/change filters.

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment support systems, such as electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and air and brake systems.

  • Read, interpret, and transcribe data to maintain accurate repair records.

  • Communicate and reinforce the Company vision, values, and goals.

  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must possess a valid Class A CDL driver’s license with tank endorsement.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience repairing heavy equipment including engine repair and diagnostics.

  • Experience with concrete slip form paving equipment including paver assembly/disassembly along with setup and operation preferred.

  • Previous experience servicing or working with cranes a plus.

  • Welding and basic fabrication skills are a plus.

  • Basic computer/iPad skills.

  • Experience using repair manuals/software, wiring (electrical) diagrams, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair equipment or component failure.

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and overnight stays out-of-town.

  • Maintain all required certifications by ODOT, OSHA and Company safety programs.

  • Ability to work well independently.

  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.

  • Willing and able to learn new skills via hands-on training and acquire additional certifications as needed.
