Actalent Entry-Level Microbiology Lab Technician in Columbus, Ohio

We are immediately hiring for an Entry-Level Microbiology Lab Technician here in the Columbus, Ohio area! This is a long-term career opportunity for someone looking to get there foot in the door in the industry and gain laboratory experience.

An ideal candidate will have a Bachelors' Degree in a scientific field, such as, but not limited to: Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry. We may also be open to considering candidates with an Associates Degree in a science and/or laboratory working experience.

Description:

On a day-to-day this position will focus on performing microbiology testing for various different food products. Most duties may include:

  • Unpacking and weighing food samples

  • Enriching (pouring microbiological media on sample)

  • Labeling samples

  • Transporting/retrieving to/from incubators

  • Plating/pipetting samples.

Additional Duties May Include:

• Provide support to laboratory department by performing and/or coordinating a variety of Laboratory processes.

• Receives, registers and prepares samples for general analytical testing through data entry, weighing, and physical homogenization.

• Preps and performs routine to more complex analyses per department methods.

• Reads and records results of analyses, making sure to keep identification numbers matched with correct samples.

• Operates basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meter, colorimeter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, evaporator, etc.

• Prepares (and assures accuracy of) standards, reagents, etc. needed for analyses.

• Acid washes glassware and specially cleans other equipment and areas as required.

• Functions as primary data generator, records and calculates data, signs assay sheets.

• Performs routine lab and department maintenance to keep area clean and orderly.

• Interpret customer requests and perform receiving and log-in functions.

• Conducts preliminary interpretations of data or observations, and drafts short reports to supervisor.

• Carries out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner and performs work in accordance with company SOPs.

• Assures adherence to safety regulations.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelors or Associates degree in a scientific field OR may be open to candidates with a high school diploma and industry laboratory experience. Examples of scientific degrees may include, but are not limited to: Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science, etc.
