Summary

The Data Protection Engineer Senior will independently perform Data Protection engineering activities of building, configuring, troubleshooting, integrating and administrating Data protection technologies aligned to Internal Security’s Data Discovery team. This colleague will support structured and unstructured scanning tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervisory guidance, build, configure, troubleshoot or administer structured data scanning technologies per standard operating procedures; execute and design BAU engineering processes.

  • Configure on-premises infrastructure resources to ensure corporate security and privacy controls are in place across the enterprise database/storage ecosystems.

  • Partner with Privacy team to ensure technology adapts to changing policy and data protection regulatory requirements.

  • Proactively monitor output of data structured scanning technology to ensure effective operation and respond to trouble tickets/events following standard operating procedure.

  • Provide independent analysis/Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of issues, develop and test solutions, present problem and solution recommendation to management for approval/prioritization.

  • Generate and publish data protection technology performance key performance and risk indicators.

  • Identify trends and make recommendation for improvement/tuning/configuration changes.

  • Identify, develop and document configuration/design improvements/optimization for supporting continuous engineering and systems performance improvement.

  • Maintain and refine documentation to ensure “evergreen state.”

  • Design and maintain standard operating procedures, run books and topology/data flow drawing for structured data scanning technology solution.

  • Support and independently execute both scheduled engineering build/configuration events as well as incident(break/fix) events including 24x7 support.

  • Generate and publish data protection technology performance metrics.

  • Document engineering activities in accordance with Agile project management methodology (Backlog activity, Change Mgt, Sprint activity planning, etc).

  • Identify, develop and document configuration/design improvements/optimization for supporting continuous engineering and systems performance improvement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3+ years work experience in a field related to Cybersecurity, data protection, Insider Threat, Counterintelligence, or similar role preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced proficiency with troubleshooting moderately complex IT infrastructure/Server/Networking issues

  • Experienced proficiency with technical system maintenance (Patch management, configuration management, design documentation management)

  • Networking Fundamentals (OCI Model, TCP/IP, Interconnecting Network Devices, SSH, SSL/TLS Encrypted Communications, X.509 Certificate Management, Kerberos, SMTP, HTTP/HTTPS

  • Data Privacy Fundamentals (Familiarity with Data Privacy Laws and Regulations Fundamentals, Understanding of Personal Information (PI) protection, Basic understanding of Privacy Breach reporting/impact analysis)

  • Cyber Security Fundamentals (Familiarity with key concepts of Vulnerability Management, Network Security/Secure Transmission Management, Data Loss Prevention, Identity Access Management, Threat Intelligence, Penetration testing, IT Risk Management)

  • IT Infrastructure Fundamentals (Familiarity with key concepts of IT Infrastructure: Client/Server, Middleware services, 3 tiered architecture (Web/Middleware/Server & Databases), Databases, Cloud Services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)

  • Independently identify and document programmatic or technological issues

  • Independently make recommendations for process improvement

  • Intermediate programming skills (read/interpret scripts, write basic scripts) with the following languages: Python, PowerShell, Java, Java Script, SQL or equivalent

  • Direct hands-on experience within Cyber Security organization supporting related technologies or services.

  • Associates Degree or related experience (2 years +)

  • Computer Science, MIS, IT Communication Systems/Networking or STEM discipline focus

  • CompTIA Network+, A+, Server+ or equivalent; ITIL Fundamentals; Security +; Cisco’s CCNA; Microsoft MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional)

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent communication skills (writing reports for management/senior management, presenting to small groups/forums, etc.)
