Burns & McDonnell Commissioning Manager - Aviation & Federal (Columbus) in Columbus, Ohio

Description

The Commissioning Manager is responsible for the managerial leadership and direction of the Commissioning department including business initiatives, client development and project management. Getting in at the ground floor, this position will be a combination of building a local team, executing commissioning work, and managing project teams throughout the commissioning process.The Commissioning Manager will help build and lead the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Responsible for managerial direction and development of the Commissioning Department in support of Burns & McDonnell’s National Commissioning Practice.

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain outstanding employee-owners.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff.

  • Serves as the technical advisor, provide senior-level input and evaluation on projects.

  • Determine program objectives and requirements, organizes projects and develops standards and guidelines.

  • Manage billability and profitability of staff and projects and coordinate efforts with respective leaders.

  • Responsible for attaining the department’s financial goals and objectives.

  • . Responsible for staying current in relevant industry developments and technology advancements.

  • Manage the review of designs, equipment submittals, O&M manuals, start-up reports, checklists, and training programs for overall compliance with the owner’s requirements and commissioning plans.

  • Manage commissioning site visits, evaluation of new and existing systems, witness of equipment start-up, direction and performance of testing.

  • Manage the development and implementation of methodologies, tools, and standards in support of an evolving commissioning practice.

  • Manage relationships with existing and potential key clients, customers and contractors to develop business.

  • Coach and mentor sales pursuits and proposal development to obtain work.

  • Facilitate pursuit strategy, capture plan development, go/no-go decisions in order to pre-sell projects before RFP release.

  • Lead or facilitate proposal development, based on client feedback and key win themes for project pursuits.

  • Lead contract and negotiation process for projects after selection

  • Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited program preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of related professional experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.

  • This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.

  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.

  • High level of attention to detail. Ability to quality-review work.

  • Subject matter expert in commissioning, retro-commissioning, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Construction, and/or energy related projects.

  • Strong facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Highly effective communicator with clear and concise writing and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and vision to a diverse group of people.

  • Full understanding of the industry, and the new innovations and technology that will allow the company to always be on the cutting edge of the other firms in the industry.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Certification in the Commissioning Process, as an Energy Manager, or LEED Accreditation is a plus.

  • Previous Experience with central utility plants, data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, water/wastewater facilities, controls, building envelope, TAB, NETA electrical testing, renewable energy and/or other specialties is desirable.

  • Ability to travel 35 % of the time.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOE, aerospace, military, food, and consumer product manufacturers, pharmaceutical, laboratories, and others necessary to sell and complete work is a plus.

  • Completion of/or ability to obtain OSHA 30-hour Safety Training Course is required.
