Definition

This position will provide alcohol and other drug use (AOD) prevention support, education, and interventions for Spanish-speaking youth and adults impacted by increased risk factors in a variety of community settings, including schools and cultural events. This role will participate in facilitation of small group education, utilizing evidence informed curriculum meeting cultural, age, and learning appropriateness, and facilitate support groups, mentorship, presentations, information dissemination at community and school events. The position will provide education on prevention topics including AOD use, health wellness, parenting classes for adults, and developing youth resiliency and positive coping mechanisms. Additional duties include maintaining timely documentation and record keeping, and developing and sustaining relationships with community partners and providers to coordinate service delivery.

Pay Range: $27.84 to $30.94 per hour

Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidate speaks English & Spanish fluently, and has knowledge of Latina culture.

• Possession of Ohio Chemical Dependency Prevention credential of RA (with advancement to OCPSA within 6 months), OCPSA, OCPS or OCPC, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), of Licensed Social Worker (LSW).

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Social Services related field of study.

• 1 year of experience working with at risk populations and youth impacted by substance use in an educational or community setting.

• Experience developing and facilitating small group educational discussions and presentations.

• Experience working with diverse populations including immigrants and refugees.

• Experience with virtual platforms and computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications, Zoom, etc.

Under direction, is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing alcohol and other drug addiction prevention services in the community; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

Promotes and disseminates alcohol and other drug prevention information and services throughout the community;

Delivers alcohol and other drug prevention education and supportive services to student and adult populations in a variety of settings including schools and community-based correctional facilities;

Facilitates and mentors small groups of participants on alcohol and other drug prevention topics and issues;

Obtains clinical consultation regarding alcohol and other drug prevention supportive services when appropriate;

Refers alcohol and other drug prevention service participants to appropriate community resources when appropriate;

Participates on task forces and committees in order to advocate and develop effective prevention approaches to alcohol and other drug problems;

Consults with schools, community and business leaders in order to assist in the design and implementation of prevention plans;

Consults with supervisor in order to discuss problems and issues entailing recommendations for changes to the program;

Prepares reports, including monthly activity, newly available services, and research summaries;

Plans, coordinates, and conducts workshops, seminars, and training sessions for interested community and target groups;

May need to communicate with individuals who have limited English language skills;

May be assigned to serve as a member of an Incident Command System (ICS) Team, or a similar public health response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations. May serve as a department and/or community incident commander or on the incident command team.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of valid State of Ohio certification by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as a Registered Applicant. Certification as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant, Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist, or Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant must be obtained within two (2) years.

OR

Possession of valid State of Ohio certification by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant, Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist, or Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant.

OR

Possession of valid State of Ohio licensure by the Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Independent Social WorkerANDone (1) year of alcohol and other drug abuse prevention experience.

OR

Possession of valid certification by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing as a Certified Health Education SpecialistANDone (1) year of alcohol and other drug abuse prevention experience.

OR

Possession of valid licensure by the Ohio Department of Education as a School CounselorANDone (1) year of alcohol and other drug abuse prevention experience.

OR

Possession of valid State of Ohio licensure or certification as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, or PhysicianANDone (1) year of alcohol and other drug abuse prevention experience.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
