Position Overview

Shaw Industries is looking for a Sr. Polymerization Process Engineer to oversee the process performance for Polymerization efforts taking place at Plant 8S in Columbia, SC. They will monitor KPI's, design process improvements, and oversee implementation projects alongside their team to effectively reach goals in the area of Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and Reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all activities of the plant Polymerization department, including safety, quality, and product performance.

  • Must develop a strong working knowledge of each stage in the Polymerization process, from incoming vendor raw material, to processing equipment capability, optimized product standard running conditions, and output quality.

  • Help ensure that the plant Polymerization department follows all safety rules and regulations. Work to minimize safety and environmental incidents in the department by auditing, capturing procedures/best practices, and maintaining a team culture of prioritizing safety.

  • Troubleshoot any equipment issues and adjust equipment to maintain proper operation until repairs are complete.

  • Coach, counsel, and mentor department. hourly employees regarding equipment and process control.

  • Responsible for managing Six Sigma projects for the Department. Work with Corporate Engineering on capital projects.

  • Set expectations for all outside contract vendors and ensure that all work performed is to the highest standards.

  • Be available for calls outside of regular working hours, if necessary, to address issues that affect plant or customer operations directly.

  • Assists other department personnel/areas as needed. Other duties as assigned by Department Manager

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours if needed.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry and reach occasionally.

  • Ability to travel as required. (minimal travel involved)

    Qualifications:

  • Must have 4-year Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.

  • Must possess good interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.

  • Plant 8S is a tobacco-free facility.

  • Experience working with Polymers, Chemicals, or Textiles highly preferred
