Burrell Behavioral Health Dental Hygienist in Columbia, Missouri

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oral prophylaxis; oral hygiene instructions including proper tooth brushing, flossing, nutrition, as well as the need for professional care.

  • Application of topical fluorides; placement of sealants; screen and evaluate patients regarding caries detection, periodontal pathology, oral cancer, and medical history.

  • Expose radiographs; supra and sub gingival scaling and root planing.

  • Procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques; gross debridement in the treatment of acute periodontal conditions.

  • Performing expanded duties where qualified; administration of local anesthetics.

  • Carry out oral health assessment and record the medical history of the patient.

  • Able to give preventive and therapeutic treatment.

  • Accurately documents information in patient records.

  • Attends to the needs of patients with the utmost patience, care, compassion and understanding.

  • Primarily responsible for the initiation and maintenance of the dental prevention and dental education program.

  • Assists in the training of dental assistants.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Clinical Staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of all phases of the field of dental hygiene.

  • Skills in the techniques of oral hygiene procedures and the use of equipment, instruments, and materials.

  • Knowledge and practice of preventative dentistry and ability to instruct patients individually and in groups.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Dental Hygiene.

  • Licensed as a Registered Dental Hygienist by the State of Missouri.

  • Maintain current CPR certification.

  • Previous experience desired, but not required.

Applicant must be willing to become licensed in additional states, other than the state currently licensed in. Applicant must be willing and comfortable with providing telehealth services to the individuals we serve.

Employment Requirements:

  • Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter.

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias Learning at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Annual maintenance of licenses, and certifications.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
