Optiv Network Engineer | Hanover, MD in Columbia, Maryland

This position will be hybrid and is required to be in-office up to 3 days per week.

The Network Engineer establishes and maintains network performance by building network configurations and connections, troubleshooting network problems in on-premises and cloud environments. The Network Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of cloud, wired and wireless network infrastructure. Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all internal standards, via auditing, documentation and configuring of systems to meet or exceed established requirements.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting and enforcing standards.

  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on optimization.

  • Secures network by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing and presenting information.

  • Project and time management to ensure on-time delivery of requirements to business stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:

  • This position will be hybrid and is required to be in-office up to 3 days per week.

  • B.A. or B.S. in a technical field or a relevant combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, Azure cloud environments and monitoring applications.

  • Industry experience in a network engineering role designing and implementing solutions

  • Understanding of routing protocols and related technologies including BGP, MPLS, NAT, IPSEC, OSPF

  • Understanding of data-link protocols and related technologies including CLOS, RPVST+, RST, MST, VCF

  • SNMP and monitoring platforms.

  • Design and Implementation experience desired with the following platforms:

  • Juniper EX Series switches

  • Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Aruba Wireless

  • GCC High Azure Government Cloud environments.

  • Extensive knowledge of data communication concepts and technologies is required.

  • Strong network problem isolation and resolutions skills required.

  • Must have the ability to lead and direct vendors to assist them in their efforts.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are a requirement.

  • Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies.

  • Strong time management and organizational skill are required.

  • Must have the ability to effectively work in a team environment, as well as independently or as a self-starter.
