Johns Hopkins University CO Ophthalmic Clinical Supervisor in Columbia, Maryland

We are seeking a CO Ophthalmic Technician Supervisor who will be responsible for the oversight of the ophthalmic technician staff and the day-to-day clinical operations of Wilmer Columbia. Coordinates the efficient flow of patients, staff and providers in a busy clinic environment. Recommends, develops and implements initiatives to enhance clinical operations. Acts proactively to troubleshoot problems, resolves and diffuses patient, physician and clinical staff issues. Fosters a team environment and is a mentor for clinical staff.

Secondary responsibilities include limited administrative duties such as responding to messages from patients and physicians and assisting with patient requests for refills, forms completion and prior authorizations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Main duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to,

  • Recruiting, hiring and onboarding clinical staff, including ophthalmic technicians, MA’s and scribes.

  • Training and coaching clinical staff including ophthalmic technicians, MA’s and scribes.

  • Manages time and attendance of clinical staff according to established guidelines.

  • Daily oversight and management of clinical staff.

  • Daily oversight and management of clinical operations, making changes/improvements as needed.

  • Assist Clinic Manager with onboarding of new providers.

  • Reviewing and updating provider’s clinical protocols as needed.

  • Ordering and managing clinic supplies, instruments and clinic drugs.

  • Troubleshooting clinic equipment issues/problems; communicating with Wilmer IT and/or vendor when necessary.

  • Liaison between providers and technicians and between providers and administration.

  • Filling in as technician when needed.

  • Resolve patient complaint’s or refer to appropriate resource.

  • This position is also responsible for other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school Diploma/GED and three (3) years’ experience as an ophthalmic technician and some supervisory or related administrative experience.

  • Must have Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification from Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) or obtain within 18 months of start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business and knowledge of medical insurance coverage and terminology.
