Bon Secours Mercy Health Program Director Nursing in Colonial Heights, Virginia

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Articulate a vision and provide leadership and strategic planning for implementation and evaluation of the nursing program and curriculum at Southside College of Health Sciences. This position will create a positive, holistic, inclusive, student-centered and caring work environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops and implement nursing program strategic plan in consultation with appropriate stakeholder groups that aligns with principles of shared governance.

  • Provides visionary leadership and ensure the quality of the nursing program.

  • Assess opportunities to develop new nursing program offerings at the College and implement where feasible.

  • Recruits, selects mentors, and evaluates faculty.

  • Designs, facilitates and monitors ongoing faculty development programs and plans.

  • Conducts regular faculty meetings to promote communication and team building.

  • Ensures continuous program improvement through a regular process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to meet stated outcomes.

  • Oversees curriculum development and revision in alignment with sound educational principles and trends in professional nursing education and practice.

  • Ensures effectiveness of the program admissions process.

  • Monitors progression, retention, graduation, licensure pass rate, and job placement data to promote student satisfaction and retention.

  • Participates in the management and budgeting of program and college operations and resources; work with College personnel in establishing priorities in the allocation of available resources.

  • Monitors and ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements and national program accreditation standards; serve as the contact for the program regarding state, professional, and accrediting groups; the community; and other external stakeholders.

  • Documents and maintain records of all activities required by external accrediting and regulatory agencies.

  • Schedules and conduct regular, purposeful program community advisory board meetings.

  • Serves on college, health system committees as assigned. Collaborate and build relationships with other colleges, committees, boards, and community stakeholders.

  • Promotes and maintain collaborative relationships with Bon Secours Health System leadership, Bon Secours Richmond Higher Education Institutions and other agencies.

  • Represents the program and the College in professional associations, the local community, etc.

  • Maintains current knowledge of collegiate nursing education and professional nursing practice.

Licensing/Certification

Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia (required)

Education

Masters degree in Nursing (required)

Doctorate of Nursing (Ph. D) (preferred)

Work Experience

3 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse (required)

Must meet the requirements for academic rank of Associate Professor (required)

3 years of teaching or administrative experience in nursing at the college level (preferred)
