As an Environmental Services Specialty Technician, your role will be to provide basic and specialized cleaning services throughout the hospital. Your primary focus will be on the maintenance and cleaning of hard and soft flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways, and public spaces, using heavy mechanical equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, and wet vacuuming equipment. Moreover, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff members by keeping specialty areas such as surgical services/perioperative suite, cath lab, endoscopy, etc., clean and sanitized. This will help protect everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards.

You’ll succeed in this job if you are thorough and committed to safety. Not only will you perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting, you will also use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize this facility.

You must learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You will learn about and safely use disinfecting chemicals and learn techniques and procedures for cleaning certain specialized rooms or pieces of equipment. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, tissue holders, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens to patient rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting.

  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment; requesting assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed.

  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment. Areas include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health and Burn Unit.

  • Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.

  • Assist in onboarding new Environment Services Technicians and serve as a mentor.

  • Remain patient, kind and personable in all interactions with patients, visitors and staff.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED preferred.

  • Previous experience in commercial/healthcare cleaning preferred.

Pay Range

$10.57 - $14.53 /hour
