Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Postdoctoral Fellow - Wigler Lab in Cold Spring Harbor, New York

Position Description

The Levy and Wigler research groups at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY are seeking independent and motivated researchers in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
The successful candidate will have a key role in a multi-disciplinary team of wet-bench and computational researchers working to revolutionize cancer detection and treatment by developing novel genomic technologies. The candidate will work closely with bench scientists to draft the initial computational workflows to analyze new experimental data. Developing a relationship of feedback and understanding between the bench and the computer is essential to work of our groups. Rather than building a single pipeline to analyze a set of standardized data, our computational scientists routinely develop custom algorithms that shape the protocol development and design. For candidates eager to obtain cross-discipline experience, this position is an opportunity to learn from a group with substantial expertise in both computational and molecular biology.
The Levy and Wigler research groups are re-envisioning the tools of genetics research by coupling innovation at the bench with novel computational methods. We have developed methods for inexpensive copy number (SMASH), generating long reads from short-read sequencers (muSeq), encapsulation of cells in acrylamide gel (BAG-seq), sensitive detection of cancer genomes (MASQ), and most recently mutational sequencing for short tandem repeats (muSTR).
