POSITION SUMMARY

With minimal supervision the Operations Superintendent is responsible for the daily operating performance of the refinery. The incumbent is responsible for: operations personnel, safety, process safety, environmental compliance, meeting production plans, producing product in accordance with specifications, and maintaining competent operations personnel. The incumbent will have multiple ongoing responsibilities requiring advanced technical knowledge, extensive management experience and leadership skills and is expected to: identify and provide expert resources, help define strategic goals, explain resolutions, recommend modifications, propose new approaches and mentor managers, supervisors and technical engineers.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years of progressive refinery experience required
  • 10+ years operations leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of refinery processes and technology
  • Efficient with Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Fluent in English, oral and written required
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, trouble shoot and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to address and handle confidential issues and materials on a regular basis
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs with travel as required

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide leadership and develop job skills of operations personnel
  • Provide daily direction to Operations Zone Supervisors to meet production and specification targets
  • Implement and drive safety and environmental culture to achieve positive results
  • Provide operations specific guidance to inspection, project engineering, drafting/design and electronic data management groups and other refinery departments as required
  • Supervise, direct, train, and develop Zone supervisors building accountability
  • Maintain close contact with the refinery management team to ensure alignment with corporate and departmental procedures
  • Promote communication with employees to influence the continuous improvement of safety and operability
  • Ensure hourly personnel are supervised, directed, motivated and have established accountabilities, as well was participate directly in disciplinary investigations
  • Manage specific projects as directed by refinery leadership and participate in functional and cross-functional initiatives as assigned
  • Initiate, investigate and resolve incident reports and process upset reporting
  • Communicate effectively with hourly workforce and management
  • Comply with and require compliance with all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement(s)
  • As assigned, serve as back-up for other refinery staff functions
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions

  • Safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operations for the refinery.
  • Effective and timely communication with all refinery stakeholders, including hourly employees, staff, and management
  • On stream and on-specification targets are met
  • Confidential information remains protected

  • Knowledgeable, trained, and certified operations staff
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures
