Health First LPN - Orthopedics in Cocoa Beach, Florida

POSITION SUMMARY:

To be fully engaged in providing superior quality, competitive value and outstanding nursing care with respect to patient expectations, cultural, spiritual and age specific individual needs. Provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES:

  1. Demonstrates effective administration of medications and IV therapy as evidenced by: Preceptor Observation Tool and Clinical Practice.
  2. Documents all nursing care, change in condition, response to therapy, treatments, procedures, and referrals on patient record to meet standards.
  3. Monitors patients as per established standards. Gives patient summary reports to RN at start of shift and is responsible and accountable for reporting changes in patient status to RN throughout the shift.
  4. Follows interdisciplinary plan of care, coordinated by the RN, based on current evidence- based practice.
  5. Demonstrates effective and safe clinical practice as evidenced by completion of annual Competency Assessment.
  6. Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility.
  7. Responds to call light in a timely manner.
  8. Utilizes Health First computer systems for order entry, order inquiry, and patient documentation.
  9. Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the healthcare team and promotes effective team functioning.
    1. Provides patient, family, and/or caregiver education as directed by the plan of care.
    2. Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural, and individual differences.
    3. Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Graduate of a practical nursing program. Licensure:Current Florida LPN license or endorsement. Certification:

  • Must hold current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Must hold Florida State approved 30 hour IV Certification which contains the minimum 4 hours of instruction relevant to central lines within 6 months of hire.
  • Certification(s) as required by specific unit.

Experience:Meets unit-specific care requirements. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS *- Medium

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently.
  • Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance.
  • May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise.
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
