Position Purpose

Plant Engineering provides preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance to the buildings, equipment, and grounds for Mercy Medical Center.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation of sprinkler, plumbing, and all related plumbing specialized types of equipment. Also, responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation of other major pieces of mechanical equipment and systems related to utility distribution. For example boilers, chillers, cooling towers, condensers, FCU, VAV boxes, motors, pumps, valves, building automation systems, medical gas, and refrigeration.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing systems and related equipment for MercyOne Clinton Medical Center and associated property.

What You Will Do

  • Completes task as assigned on work orders.

  • Performs assigned P.M. on various systems.

  • Performs journeyman level work in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and plumbing systems.

  • Monitors medical gas systems.

  • Plans plumbing installations by examining blueprints and working sketches, determining materials needed.

  • Repairs, adjusts, and maintains hospital kitchen equipment.

  • Performs minor electrical repairs on all controls and motors for related equipment.

  • Repairs and maintains various hospital equipment. (May include pumps, sterilizers).

  • Solders joints, welds, repacks and replaces valves.

  • Participates in the maintenance program for the building and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate required.

  • Two years experience in mechanical maintenance required, previous experience in plumbing maintenance.

  • Journeyman plumbing license preferred.

  • Must be able to maintain, repair and replace existing utility systems and write up material specifications for projects.

  • Mechanical aptitude and proven ability to use hand and power tools, to work on ladders at various heights, and demonstrate a safety-conscious attitude.

  • Ability to operate large vehicles, tractors, plows, and various lawn equipment.

  • Must have valid Driver's License.

  • Must be able to work with limited supervision to complete tasks assigned in a timely manner and have the ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities.

  • Ability and willing to work in a variety of environments, including office settings, classrooms, laboratories, mechanical rooms, service tunnels, and outside areas.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a shared leadership environment and collaborative team environment, including mentoring and sharing knowledge with co-workers and contracted services.
