The Salvation Army Youth Ministries Coordinator in Cleveland, Ohio

Overview

The Youth Ministries Director will function as part of the Cleveland Temple Ministry Team. They will invest themselves in the lives of young people and their families developing and maintain relational ministry opportunities:

  • To conduct an ongoing and aggressive evangelical ministry with the specific purpose of introducing children and their families to Jesus Christ.

  • To provide an environment and ministry opportunities in which children, teens and young adults can grow and mature in their faith and grow into a walk of Holiness. Salary: $30,000/yr.

Responsibilities

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.

  • Assist in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The Cleveland Temple Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to the people of our community.

  • Develop and implement an intentional family ministry, striving to reach the families that contact our programs, and bridging them to our church.

  • Develop and maintain practical approaches to building solid Christian living among the children and families under your influence.

  • Develop and maintain programs and ministries to enhance the healthy spiritual, physical and emotional development of those under your influence

  • Disseminate information regarding community resources available to children, teens, young adults and their guardians

  • Develop and maintain an intensive relational ministry

  • Develop and maintain a new or traditional ministries to facilitate the enhancement of the healthy spiritual formation and discipleship of children and their families.

  • Attend training sessions conducted by the Divisional Youth Department

  • Must possess a current, valid driver’s license.

  • Drive, including picking up and dropping off participants, for all programs.

  • Strive to up-hold a solid Christian influence in all areas of the Cleveland Temple facility.

  • Provide prayer and devotional time, as requested, in all Community Center Programs.

  • Work with youth from the Corps/Church, Learning Center, Kids Café and the Recreation Center and their parents.

  • Build relationships within all aspects of the Community Center to encourage children and their parents to participate in Corps / Church programs / services.

  • Organize events, plan, implement, and oversee all youth ministries.

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Attend and chaperone all Corps, Divisional and Territorial retreats and events as instructed.

  • Attend community events, at the direction of the Corps Officers.

  • Take a leading role in a variety of athletic and recreational activities that are a part of the total ministry of Cleveland Temple.

  • Assist in teaching children basic skills in individual and team activities.

  • Monitor activities in the gymnasium, game room, computer lab and elsewhere in the facility.

  • Is responsible for the safety and well-being of participants, including leaving no children unsupervised.

  • Must maintain monthly stats.

  • Assist with the overall Christmas effort including driving for kettles as requested and necessary.

  • Assist with any other projects as assigned by the Corps Officers.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience working with children and families

  • Solid and mature Salvationist preferred

  • Must have a valid Ohio Drivers License and be able to drive for The Salvation Army

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills required.

  • Strong knowledge of available resources required.

  • Must possess initiative, sound judgement, and be passionate about the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the Cleveland Temple Corps.
