The Salvation Army Social Services Coordinator in Cleveland, Ohio

Overview

This social ministry position is a position which requires a strong concentration in case management. The overall purpose of this position is to provide traditional Corps social services to all clients including food, shelter referral, clothing, and utility assistance.

The Family Service Worker will interview and evaluate clients determining various problems and needs. They will also provide emergency assistance to alleviate the immediate basic need for issues such as food insecurity, disconnection of utility services, and emergency shelter referral. The case manager will also provide referrals as needed to outside agencies.

Duties will include execution of department seasonal programs (Christmas, Camp NEOSA (overnight), and Back to School) as well other department programs/events, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for scheduling all utility appointments.

  • Columbia Gas assistance is provided through the West Park Corps only as this gas supplier serves the western suburbs.

  • Maintain accurate record for corps Gas allocation showing date of service, client served, and amount paid. Send regular batch sheets with intent to pay to DHQ employee.

  • Complete and submit an end of month record for disbursed funds on or before the 10th of each month.

  • Maintain accurate records of corps electric allocation showing date of service, clients served, and amount of intent with remaining balance.

  • Maintain accurate balance sheet reflecting all voucher expenditures and remaining balances.

  • Clients requesting emergency assistance must be assessed for that need. Established client file will include supporting household size, income verification, residence and so forth.

  • Referrals are usually made to programs within our own agency first. Referrals are made to various agencies throughout Greater Cleveland for needs beyond Salvation Army purview.

  • Keep record of number of monthly referrals given.

  • Work with the Corps Officer(s) for the support of social service programs within that corps.

  • Prepare monthly reports (NSSII), Community Block Grants repots (CDBG), monthly performance sheets for United Way funding.

  • Recruit and register children for Camp NEOSA, overseeing the completion/processing of all documents.

  • Maintain contact with parent/guardians throughout registration for Camp NEOSA.

  • Accompany children to and from overnight camp sessions (CAMP NEOSA) to help ensure the campers are registered and accepted into camp.

  • Organize and provide leadership for the monthly Produce Giveaway effort, including execution of the event.

  • Register and recruit neighborhood children for Christmas Distribution program.

  • Work at distribution site location on day of event.

  • Maintain accurate records for each client.

  • Provide oversight and help in food pantry, as needed.

Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:The food pantry department, department employees and volunteers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE• Bachelor’s Degree in human service field or minimum of 5 years’ experience in related field.• LSW preferred• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS• Must possess a current, valid Driver’s License.• Must pass Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
