Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Process Automation Engineer at our Cleveland, OH operation. This position is responsible for providing Level 2 Supervisory Automation support, as outlined below, to increase efficiency, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate will have prior steel industry experience, be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations. Summary of Responsibilities Serve as a cross-functional team leader on special projects, assignments, or initiatives. Monitor supervisory computer systems in real-time of steel mill processes including maintenance of computer hardware and software, design and installation of new computer control systems, and modernization of existing systems. Research, analyze, design, and maintain manufacturing control systems for continuous improvement to the manufacturing process. Prepare and present interpretation of findings and provide relevant conclusions and recommendations. Develop custom software, programming language code, and database configuration for tracking, communications modelling as well as Human Machine Interface (HMI), networking, video systems, etc. Develop, implement, and maintain other software relative to mill processes such as product tracking, product dimensioning, data reporting, and analysis. Identify, develop, evaluate production projects by applying advanced engineering techniques to solve complex problems and provide recommendations to management. Monitor computer controls in real-time of steel mill processes including maintenance of computer hardware and software, design and installation of new computer control systems, and modernization of existing systems. Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces. Manage positive working relationships with union workers, contractors, leadership, and plan operation teams. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an engineering/computer related field, such as Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited school. Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in development of software, computer programing, as well as system maintenance roles of a technical team in a business or industrial environment. Advanced skill in programming languages such as C, C#, Fortran, VB.NET, Java/JavaScript, C++, Python, Microsoft SQL, Windows scripting. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools and Applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms, PowerBI, etc. Basic understanding of computer networking and routing. Demonstrated ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot complex programming logic. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working successfully in a self-directed team environment. Operations are performed 7 days a week 24 hours a day; therefore, continuous support is required including rotational weekend and on call support as needed. Occasional foreign and domestic, although very infrequent, may be required. Preferred Qualifications Ten (10) years of experience and bachelor's degree in engineering/computer. Extensive experience in programming in a variety of higher-level languages, including C, .NET, FORTRAN, Java, or C++, etc. Extensive experience with DBMS as a database administrator and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Extensive experience with process modeling and familiarity with interfacing to direct control systems such as PLC, DCS, and hybrid systems is a plus.
