As a Patient Safety Program Manager (PSPM), you will:

  • Provide leadership for safety assessments.

  • Coordinate the activities of the Patient Safety Committee.

  • Educate other practitioners on system-based causes for medical errors, management and caregivers.

  • Communicate evidence-based practices regarding effective patient safety strategies to stakeholders within the organization.

As a Patient Safety Program Manager, you will work close with the Executive Team for the hospital and have opportunities to facilitate committees and presentations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the creation, review and refinement of the scope of the Patient Safety Program within the facility on an annual basis.

  • Collaborates with Quality Department in meeting Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements.

  • Coordinates the activities of the Patient Safety Committee including public reportable clinical data sets.

  • Serves as liaison between CNO/CEO and Safety Committee.

  • Reports medical errors and near misses, as well as corrective actions taken.

  • Oversees the management and use of medical error information.

  • Reviews internal error reports and utilizes information from external reporting programs to achieve internal outcomes.

  • Investigates (along with Risk Management) patient safety issues within the facility.

  • In collaboration with Quality/Risk Management, identifies, manages, and participates in the review of adverse events that may have or have resulted in patient harm.

  • Participates in sentinel event process.

  • Develops action plans identified through root cause analysis.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, Engineering or related field required.

Certifications:

  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) within one year of hire.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • In depth knowledge of health care delivery systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in principles of risk management, quality and performance improvement methods

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five years of related experience with Quality Management, Risk Management/Patient Safety and Performance Improvement program or related healthcare experience. In depth knowledge of patient safety best practices, joint commission standards, and conditions of participation

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk extensively, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and the ability to wear protective equipment such as respirators, boots, gloves and protective eye gear.

  • Position requires visual acuity with the ability to smell, taste and hear.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $30.41

Maximum hourly: $46.38
