Cleveland Clinic Research Technologist - Haouzi lab in Cleveland, Ohio

Under the supervision and guidance of the Research Staff Investigator or Technologist, the Research Technologist:

  • Performs laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies projects.

  • Assists with establishing and scheduling various procedures and analyses.

  • Conducts tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

  • Assembles experimental results for review by various staff.

  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.

This position is to assist, Dr Philippe Haouzi, MD, PhD and his team, in medical research projects aimed at finding treatments for pulmonary diseases and disorders affecting breathing and circulatory control. The current research involves in vivo (sedated and un-sedated animal models) studies. This position will specifically take care of in vivo studies in mice and rats, by supporting on-going NIH funded projects, managing small as well as middle size projects with minimal supervision, as well as sometimes complex research projects working with the PI and other members of the team. More specifically, the missions related to the position include:

  • Laboratory Maintenance/Upkeep: ordering/stocking of supplies and animals, organization of the spaces, and being sure that bio-safety, chemical safety, and IACUC guidelines are met and followed at all times, along with corresponding paperwork. Additionally routine and as needed equipment maintenance is performed or coordinated.

  • Conducting and supporting ongoing research projects, performed under the current management of Tristan Lewis and other scientists, overseeing the day-to-day operations of projects. This comprises, but is not limited to, the setup, calibration and operation of lab equipment, as well as experimental testing using intermediate level skills, and writing detailed experimental logs of experiments.

  • Contributing to data collection for use in technical reports, documents, proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, performs and monitors daily project protocols.

  • Collects, prepares and maintains required research documentation, including informed consent records, case records, clinical notes and medical reports.

  • Reports and assists with the management of protocol deviations, adverse events and other project-related issues.

  • Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the lab.

  • Orders and purchases supplies as directed from the supervisors.

  • Gathers information on new equipment necessary in the lab and recommends purchases.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma Required.

  • Associate's degree in laboratory science field may offset one year of the experience requirement.

  • Bachelor's degree may offset two years of the experience requirement.

  • Master's may offset three years of the work experience requirement.

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

  • Ability to distinguish color

  • Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $20.77

Maximum hourly: $31.68
