Cleveland Clinic Patient Service Specialist - Ambulatory Operations in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland Clinic is looking for a Patient Service Specialist to provide comprehensive, proactive and 'Patient First' customer service to patients. Patient Service Specialists manage a wide variety of patient requests including appointment scheduling, patient registration, wayfinding and other general questions. It's vital that our Patient Service Specialists make positive first impressions on patients and visitors, ensure stellar and efficient patient experiences, reduce financial loss and ensure compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Enters and maintains computer data including master patient data and insurance and billing information.

  • Performs call center scheduling for arrival and departure desk activities.

  • Collects referring physician demographics information for communication.

  • Recruits, initiates protocol and trains patients on MyChart system.

  • Performs screening and scheduling of interpreter services. Initiates privacy practices and consent.

  • Performs point of service activities such as visit preparation, co-pay collection, patient tracking and record tracking.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Working knowledge of computerized appointment scheduling system, insurance processing or other related office functions.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays. Working knowledge of PC window applications sufficient to input and retrieve date.

  • Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute (assessed at time of application) or demonstrable personal computer keyboard skills.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential in order to successfully communicate with a diverse patient population and workforce.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving skills.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum two years patient registration, insurance processing or appointment scheduling.

  • Receptionist, General office or a job related training program may offset some of the experience requirement.

  • Associate Degree may substitute for one year of experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree may substitute for the experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Dexterity sufficient to operate a PC and other office equipment. Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds. May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting. Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
