Howmet Aerospace Engineering and Maintenance Manager in Cleveland, Ohio

Accountability Objectives

Under the direction of the Site Director, this position is accountable for:

  • Developing policies and setting expectations to ensure that EHS objectives, activities and plans are achieved. Lead and participate in the development of an interdependent culture and an incident free workplace.

  • Manage and set expectations for the Cleveland Works Maintenance & Engineering Lead team including the full scope of performance management and compensation.

  • Manage a multi-discipline engineering organization responsible for providing all mechanical and electrical engineering support for production process and facility requirements throughout Cleveland Works.

  • Lead the change from a reactive to proactive maintenance environment. Optimize Cleveland Works maintenance resources.

  • Responsible to ensure that preventative and responsive maintenance resources and programs are in place to support a 24x 5 (7) manufacturing operation that covers an asset base of 300+ million and 33 acres of manufacturing and office space.

  • Key measurable items include OA (operational availability), EHS and support of plant delivery metrics.

  • Promoting and leading the development and application of predictive maintenance, reliability engineering, Root Cause Analysis, Total Productive Maintenance and control/capability of critical processes.

  • Insuring all new equipment and facility designs meet the highest standards of safety and conform to Howmet’s EHS values.

  • Ensure that Works Engineering Contracting Out and Grievance handling is executed within the requirements of the Labor Agreement. Participate in the 2nd and 3rd step Grievance process.

  • Assisting with the management of the Cleveland Works capital budget and capital projects to insure they meet the stated objectives.

  • Manage plant-wide energy costs and associated reductions with the goal of optimizing the consumption of all utilities through monitoring and implementation of world-class practices and technology.

  • Researching, recommending and deploying innovative, economical leading edge equipment, systems, and advanced process control technologies.

  • Authoritatively recommending the rehabilitation or replacement of production equipment.

  • Participating in the identification, recruitment, training, appraising and professional development of engineering and maintenance resources.

  • Support Internal and External audits, including lead responsibility for the Maintenance and Fixed Capital ASAT audit processes.

Hierarchy:

This position reports directly to the Cleveland Works Site Director.

This position provides direction for the Facilities Engineering Manager, Superintendent – Central Maintenance, Plant Maintenance Managers, Engineering Manager, Maintenance & Planning Systems Manager and the Maintenance Services Superintendent. .

Internal contacts include Superintendents, Production Management, Procurement/Stores, Accounting, Union Leadership, HR, IT and other Maintenance/Production Personnel. External contacts include representatives of vendors, contractors, suppliers, other Howmet Plant Maintenance Experts, and corporate support personnel.

Job Dimensions:

The principal challenge of this position is to lead and direct the engineering and maintenance resources in the fulfillment of Cleveland Works business objectives. This position primarily supervises the Maintenance, Engineering and Central Services management group which includes in excess of 50 salaried and 150 bargaining unit employees. The incumbent must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all personnel, be forward thinking with the ability to get organizational support from the various departments and groups across Cleveland Works.

Due to the highly technical nature of this position, an appropriate engineering degree or equivalent, coupled with a minimum of ten years ' experience, is required. A strong technical background is required, as are managerial skills and the ability to motivate people. Incumbent must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. In order for this position to be successful, the incumbent must also possess a high degree of people skills as they must motivate and influence others including those not under their direct supervision.

In addition to knowledge of conventional aluminum processing, incumbent must have a thorough understanding of Maintenance and Engineering practices. The incumbent should also have a thorough knowledge of the forging process and standard practices that would normally be acquired through extensive experience in various technical assignments.
