Organizational Expectations:

The Economic Research Editor leverages an understanding of economic principles and excellent writing skills to broadly improve the accessibility of research products, including highly technical pieces, for the appropriate audience(s). The successful candidate collaborates with authors to ensure their outputs effectively communicate the intended message. This professional collaborates with authors, subject matter experts, and other department colleagues to manage the publications workflow and ensure external web content consistently and accurately reflects the outputs and messages of the department.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide deep editorial support for all Research publications that reflects an understanding of underlying economic principals and applications to policy.

  • Ensure research outputs are clear, concise, and accessible to targeted audiences.

  • Work with authors at critical stages of developing Bank publications and assists with developing the writing skills of staff.

  • Support the production of working papers to ensure clarity and accessibility to other subject matter experts, including academic journal referees and editors.

  • Edit ad hoc materials for web content or special projects that ensure a consistent style and clear communication of Research key messages.

  • Develop and oversee publications schedules by coordinating with authors and other subject matter experts within the department and serves as primary liaison to Bank partners across departments on publications and web content.

  • Advise management of opportunities to enhance or modify the department’s public image.

  • Develop strategies to improve communication of research outputs and web content to ensure outputs are accessible to their targeted audience.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Adhere to the Bank's attendance policies through regular and prompt attendance.

Education and Experience:

Economic Editor:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics

  • Coursework in English or Journalism strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years of related work experience editing technical content to make it accessible to a broad audience.

  • Experience in working with content producers for whom English is a second language and managing a publication process strongly preferred.

Senior Economic Editor:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics.

  • Coursework in English or Journalism strongly preferred.

  • 7+ years of related work experience writing or editing technical content to make it accessible to a broad audience.

  • Experience in working with content producers for whom English is a second language and managing a publication process strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of economic principles and current economic issues and a strong interest in economics and public policy.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and strategic and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work under deadlines and balance a range of short-term and long-term projects with consistent attention to detail.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, collaborative, works well with others and can thrive in a team environment.

  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint as well as Internet research skills.

Physical Demands and General Working Conditions

Traditional office environment: Employees typically sit most of the day, work with a computer and may answer/respond to phone calls. Physical movement consists of walking for meetings, breaks, etc. Ability to lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds on a limited basis is required. Employees may be required to travel by car/air.
