CT Scan Technologist Assistant

CT Scan Technologist Assistants continually interact with technical staff, nurses, unit secretaries, patients, visitors, and physicians. This position requires caregivers to have knowledge of sterile and non-sterile techniques involved in all aspects of the CT/MRI department operations including dispensing of department stock, stocking rooms daily, preparing oral contrast and exam data entry.

A caregiver in this position works 7:30AM - 4:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assure rooms are set up properly before beginning of procedure.

  • Clean rooms promptly post-procedure.

  • Assure patient modesty and comfort, assist patients with changing, answer call lights as appropriate and report any change in patient's condition or behavior.

  • Assure patient is discharged to appropriate destination.

  • Check proper identification of patient per policy and create patient identification bands.

  • Schedule scans and watch queue.

  • Verify physician exam order, look at needs of patient and initiate communication and inpatient flow.

  • Document patient history, conditions and any other pertinent information on requisition/history sheet and ensure all data is entered into the computer on day of exam, including nonprocedural changes, additional exams, and order revision.

  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS, when applicable knowledge in after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork immediately reporting any malfunctions to Help Desk and PACS Administrator.

  • Follow Radiation/MRI Safety Guidelines.

  • Operate all equipment properly and with care.

  • Maintain ethical and professional relationships with all customers, demonstrating cooperative efforts with coworkers and the ability to accept constructive criticism.

  • Assess the patient's readiness and need for learning, considering all aspects of diversity and inclusion.

  • Determine the best methodology to deliver education and receive verbal feedback or return demonstration to validate learning.

  • Provide verbal and/or written instructions for tests/procedures, diagnoses, and discharge when appropriate.

  • Document what education has been delivered, patient's response and collaboration with any members of the health care team in coordination of care.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED with an emphasis on communication, computer skills and science courses.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at certain sites/departments but preferred for all.

  • One year of experience in a healthcare related field.

  • Current radiology students are eligible.

  • Broad knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
