ARAMARK Student Micro Farm Intern - Clemson University in CLEMSON, South Carolina

Job Description

The Micro Farm Intern is responsible for assisting the Sustainability Manager to ensure Aramark/Clemson Dining?s Sustainability needs are met. This position will work with the Sustainability Manager, Location Manager, and Chefs to coordinate a harvest schedule for the micro-farms and plan events to highlight the produce harvested from the micro-farms. The micro-farm intern will also work with other interns on additional Green Dining initiatives. All interns must be a student at Clemson University in a related field and possess excellent customer service and verbal communication skills. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by Aramark location based on client requirements and business needs. Once hired, the Intern will be required to complete training for both Babylon farms and meet with a Babylon representative

Job Responsibilities

  • Fully manage the Blue Ridge Micro Farms (currently 2 units). This includes...

  • Setting a schedule for both farms

  • Work independently and keep a consistent organized schedule

  • Follow operational guides & protocols for the farms

  • Clean the micro-farms thoroughly after every harvest and complete one deep clean every 6 weeks for each farm

  • Assist in planning and executing Micro Farm and other Farm to Fork related events.

  • Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation.

  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and weekly 1:1 meetings.

  • Develop a basic knowledge of sustainability and environmental principles.

  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • Must be a current Clemson University student pursuing a degree in a Sustainability or Plant and Environmental Sciences related field.

  • Professional interest and enthusiasm in environmental education, community engagement, sustainable agriculture, and sustainability.

  • Organized and efficient worker; ability to keep track of multiple projects and tasks

  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 25 lbs.

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proficient in MS office

  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
