OBJECTIVES / PURPOSE OF JOB

The Controls Automation Engineer will provide ongoing manufacturing and process improvement support and leading/supporting multiple automation and systems integration projects. Project work may include controls systems design and implementation, systems integration, small-to-medium scale automation equipment builds, and equipment / systems improvements to existing manufacturing equipment. This is a Global Pharma & Med Device Engineering position based in the Clearwater, FL.

KEY ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and recommend controls and automation improvements for current and emerging manufacturing platforms.

  • Lead and drive automated process equipment and systems integration projects. Responsibilities include design, development, software programming, integration and systems qualifications.

  • Facilitate internal resources and outside suppliers in developing technical solutions for custom automated equipment.

  • Develop and manage project Charters, schedules and detailed work plans in order to meet stated goals. Communicate status of project activities to management on a regular basis.

  • Work in conjunction with site operations to develop User and Functional Requirements for manufacturing equipment and integration. Lead internal and external design reviews to ensure timely execution of project plans.

  • Work closely with SQA, QA and operations to successfully validate software systems including writing and execution of software test scripts.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant Engineering degree with Controls experience.

Experience:

  • Min. of 7 years related experience with development, integration and technical project leadership of automated control systems including PLCs, motion control, robotics, HMIs and SCADA control systems software, preferably in a regulated environment.

  • Familiarity with machine vision systems applications, industrial networks and switch configurations desired.

  • Familiarity with relational Database design and MES systems for the purpose of systems integration.

Desired Skills:

  • Medical device manufacturing engineering experience a plus.

  • Working knowledge of 21CFR Part 11 Compliance, Data Integrity and relevant industrial codes.

  • A self-starter able to achieve project goals with minimal supervision.

  • Capable of working independently or on project teams as required.

  • Excellent project management, cross functional leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Strong problem solving, conflict resolution, verbal and written communications, negotiation and teamwork skills.

  • Lean / Six Sigma experience; certification is a plus.
