Department of Transportation Engineering District 2-0 Transportation Construction Inspector in Clearfield, Pennsylvania

Do you have a passion for ensuring the quality and safety of transportation infrastructure projects?  Do you possess a sharp attention to detail and a solid comprehension of construction practices? The Department of Transportation is currently looking for a skilled and meticulous Transportation Construction Inspector to join our District 2 team. In this role, you will be tasked with performing various technical duties related to inspecting materials and workmanship on highway construction projects to ensure compliance with approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this role, your main responsibility will be to perform independent technical inspections on transportation construction projects, ensuring that they meet both contract requirements and industry standards. Additionally, you will be involved in providing documentation services for these projects and assisting with estimating and worker services. Your tasks will include checking grades, elevations, stake-outs, and inspecting the placement of different construction materials. Furthermore, you will collaborate with department staff, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the general public to ensure the smooth administration of the projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Clearfield.
  • Salary:* *In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

*QUALIFICATIONS  Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:     * 

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

     

Special Requirement: 

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
