Description

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, instructing and supervising a specialized youth sports clinic under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Athletic Department. Instruction will include: providing skills, drills, games, and various other activities to children.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION. APPLICANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE, HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL PLAY AND RULES, HAVE PREVIOUS BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL COACHING OR PLAYING EXPERIENCE, AND BE AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE LESSONS AND CLINICS RUNNING THROUGH OCTOBER. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.

Example of Duties

JOB DUTIES:

  • Organizes and instructs clinic, developing a plan for each participant to reach program's goals.
  • Prepares all supplies and materials needed to run the clinic. This includes setting up fields and provided equipment as needed as well as cleaning up after the clinic.
  • Communicates with parents and participants in a professional and polite manner; which may include updates of schedule changes.
  • Enforces department rules and regulations and promotes and maintains order and discipline. Notifies supervisor or facility manager of all equipment needs and potential safety hazards.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records, including incident reports, time records, and rosters.
Typical Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior coaching or playing experience for the sport they will be teaching.

  • Knowledge of sports rules and coaching principals
  • Previous playing or coaching experience
  • Previous experience involving children

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, sitting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to bloodbornepathogens and extreme temperatures. May be required to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Light Work: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
