THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is actively seeking a Staff Psychiatrist to be a part of our Clinical Services team at Clarks Summit State Hospital. The department is looking for individuals who are resourceful, self-directed, energetic, and compassionate to provide essential psychiatric services to our patients. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Staff Psychiatrist, you are responsible for providing a thorough workup of all patients under your care. This includes performing detailed psychiatric examinations and making appropriate diagnosis in keeping with the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association.

Additional duties include performing daily rounds, attending and conducting Team meetings, attending and participating in assigned hospital committee meetings, responding and assuming a leadership role during psychiatric emergencies, and responding to medical emergencies. In addition, you prescribe the indicated treatment orders and interpret consultations, laboratory, and other findings. With the responsibility for the overall treatment of patients, you have full authority to make medication selection appropriate for treatment.

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
    • Possible evening, weekend and Holiday on-call 
    • May change based on operational needs
  • Overtime and travel may be required when necessary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of a residency or training program in psychiatry which meets the certification requirements of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. * *

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • *All candidates must possess a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure, or the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners. *

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

      *Legal Requirements: *

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
