Insight Global Remote Lead Data Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Description

A large retail company is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join their team in Cincinnati, OH. While a Cincinnati candidate would be ideal, the Hiring Team is open to an all-star candidate sitting remotely. The client is an enterprise grocery store chain, and the Sr. Data Engineer will be brought on to assist in the establishing of a data platform and data strategy for internal shared services teams. Working alongside a Lead DevOps individual and 2 Data Engineers, the Lead Data Engineer will help establish the platform over the course of 6-8 weeks. After that time, additional Engineers may be brought on for more backlog project work. The platform is already in existence in Azure, but the Lead and Data Engineering team will help make it accessible, serving it to business users in the enterprise.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Design, develop, and implement patterns and framework for ingestion & movement of data through the layers (medallion architecture)

Evaluate, recommend, and implement Databricks infrastructure (compute clusters, cluster policies, SQL warehouses, etc.) to support project needs while optimizing for cost and demand for data.

Design, develop, and implement processes to document, share & govern our data via Unity Catalog and Alation

Skills and Requirements

7+ years' overall experience in the Data Engineering space, specifically with Azure Data tools like Azure Databricks, Databricks Workflows, Databricks Delta Live Tables, Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory (ingestion & orchestration), Azure SQL Database, etc.

At least 2 years' experience in a Lead capacity, including both technical direction and mentorship of less experienced engineers/analysts

Experience planning design, development, execution and monitoring of complex data integrations to support project delivery

Experience with CICD: implementing and streamlining CICD processes with engineering teams

Knowledge of CICD practices for Azure Data Factory & Azure Databricks

2-3 years of Hands on Experience working with in Azure Databricks including workflows, Delta Live Tables and Databricks Unity Catalog

SQL

Exceptional communication skills, proven through leadership examples Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional

Experience in the retail industry

Experience with Unity Catalog

Experience standing up and building a data platform
