Job Description: This is an entry level (Engineer 1) position for the Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU). Employees at this entry level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. Job Summary: The NGBU Distribution Engineering group provides engineering services to support natural gas operations and annual capital improvement project work in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. We work closely with Technical Field Operations (TFO), Distribution Project Specialists (DPS's), and our Engineering Technical Services (ETS) group, who perform our in-house drafting services. This group is staffed with versatile, high performing engineers, who are subject matter experts in regulator station design, meter set piping design, horizontal directional drills, maximum allowable operation pressure review, government relocation and management of the design phase of new projects. We are now seeking to fill an open Engineer 1 position on the team to aid in engineering and support for our Operations Centers throughout OH/KY and provide support for our internal customers. Operational support of our internal customers includes engineering design work and appropriate material selection for mechanical and civil plan sets. In addition, we conduct annual compliance requirements required by the 49 CFR Part 192, as well as other duties as assigned. Additionally, Distribution Engineers help to manage and oversee external design firms with respect to civil, mechanical, electrical, structural and AC mitigation plan sets designed by our Enterprise Engineer of Choice (EEoC) partnership firms. This includes design reviews and design direction to contracted design firms for 30/60/90/IFB/IFC submittal packages as well as other scope identified in RFP documents. Responsibilities & Duties: Engineering design and support of both Capital and O&M projects for regulator stations and meter set stations. Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise. Provides conflict analysis for government relocation plans as it relates to high pressure distribution assets. Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees. Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems. Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity. Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. Participate in corporate initiatives and special projects. Other engineering duties as needed by the NGBU. Basic/Required Qualifications: Engineer I Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
