To function in a role as a Critical Care transport Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that is diverse and multi-faceted specific to the age groups served. To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the appropriate level of patient care according to the scope of EMT practice, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati Southwest Ohio Protocols, Commission on Accreditation for Medical Transport Systems as well as organizational and departmental policies and procedures.High School Graduate, EMT - B Certification, National Registry preferred. | Minimum Required: Current Ohio EMT-B certification. Preferred: National Registry. Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or it's equivalency (s) must be obtained during probation period. Active, unrestricted Drivers License with no more than 4 accrued points. | Three years of Emergency Medical Service experience as an EMT- B, five years preferred. Intra-facility transport experience preferred.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY) Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Clinical Practitioner:: Possess knowledge and skill to ensure assessments are pertinent and accurate. Implements a holistic plan of care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and educational needs of the patient and their family before and throughout transport in collaboration with other healthcare providers. Evaluates the care that is provided and responds appropriately. Possesses and demonstrates advanced knowledge and clinical skills to provide critical assessment(s), intervention and evaluation necessary to ensure safe and efficient transport of the critically ill or injured patient. Serves as a patient advocate and respects the patient's right to privacy and confidentiality. Completes and demonstrates proficiently all required department and organizational competencies and educational requirements. Participates in improving organizational performance; evaluates the effectiveness of established programs and makes recommendations for change to improve upon the quality of patient care and their outcomes. Maintains accurate records: Completes patient documentation and all transport records thoroughly, timely and per department policies. Completes required operational paperwork thoroughly and ensures proper functioning of equipment and vehicles; reports any deficiencies or concerns in a timely manner.
