About UC Blue Ash The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College invites applications for our Dental Hygiene Educational Specialist staff position in the Allied Health department. The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is one of the largest regional colleges in Ohio and one of the most diverse colleges at the University of Cincinnati. The college is in Blue Ash, Ohio fifteen miles north of the uptown campus, on 135 acres in a park-like setting. We offer primarily associate degrees in career and transition programs, as well as general education courses and technical baccalaureate degrees to approximately 4,500 students. Job Overview The Dental Hygiene Educational Specialist will provide clinical and laboratory instruction and perform support activities for the teaching needs of dental hygiene clinics and laboratories. UC Blue Ash Dental Hygiene is a selective admissions program with approximately 38 students per class. This Educational Specialist staff position is 80% Full-Time-Equivalency (FTE.) The position is benefits eligible. Average weekly hours will be 40 hours/week during the Fall and Spring semesters. This position will not report to work during the summer semester. Working hours may include mornings after 8:00am, afternoons, or early evenings Monday-Friday. Essential Functions Instruct student dental hygienists in the theoretical and clinical aspects of the practice of dental hygiene. Assist students to apply dental hygiene theory, the dental hygiene process and dental hygiene techniques in clinical settings. Counsel students on educational and related problems; facilitate problem-solving process; offer advice and assistance as needed. Make recommendations to faculty and administration in developing curriculum content and improved teaching and dental hygiene techniques. Collaborate with faculty, administrators, students and clinic personnel in planning and coordinating curriculum and clinical content and activities. Interact and collaborate with dental hygiene service personnel to supplement clinic learning with practical experience in the dental hygiene clinic. Observe and evaluate student performance in actual dental hygiene situations. Prepare, administer and grade assessments to determine student performance and achievement; maintain necessary records to indicate student progress. Assist in the preparation of reports required by accrediting agencies. Participate in quality improvement activities in the college and university. Perform related duties based on departmental need.
