In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The UC Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati has been an independent academic unit within the College of Medicine since 1984. It is responsible for the medical direction of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Center for Emergency Care (CEC) and the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program. The College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking to fill a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position (80% FTE) in the Flex Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This position will provide emergent care in the emergency setting as well as manage protocolized patients in the clinical decision making unit. The work schedule will include weekend day and night 12 hour shifts with the potential for 8 hour shifts as the schedule develops. Essential Functions Provide state of the art care to critically ill and injured patients, as well as complex step-down patients, in the new FLEX-ICU at University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC). Perform critical care duties necessary to stabilize and care for a mixed critical care population per the Standard Care Agreement with a collaborating physician. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the attending physician and members of the multidisciplinary critical care team. Prescribe and monitor medications in accordance with the state and University of Cincinnati Medical Center prescriptive authority. Procedures necessary for the provision of critical care including arterial catheter placement, central line placement, and diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy will be performed commensurate with existing skill and privileging. Independent capability with these procedures is idealbut not required at job start. Be actively involved with Quality Management, data collection and performance improvement initiatives. Other activities and/or duties assigned to achieve the overall mission of the position within the department. Minimum Requirements, Nurse Pracitioner: Required Education Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty Required Experience Three (3) years nursing experience.
