Medical Technical Writer

Location: Chula Vista, CA -NAB Coronado

Position Type: Full Time

Position Overview: The Medical Technical Writer will provide administrative support to develop, write, revise, and edit technical reports, policies, instructions, manuals, specifications, presentation materials, and other technical documents. Documentation includes online help, user guides, white papers, design specifications, system manuals, and other documents. The writer will use rough outlines and resource materials, interpret information obtained through research, or provided by technical specialists, and apply knowledge of Naval correspondence documentation content and format standards to prepare, edit, and publish technical materials. The main objective of this position is to ensure CNSWC complies with medical policies from the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), Defense Health Agency (DHA), and higher authorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, revise, and edit various technical documents, including policy documents, online help, user guides, and system manuals.

  • Monitor and evaluate a quality control program as required by the contract.

  • Possess knowledge of medical regulations from DHA, BUMED, DOD, and NSW instructions.

  • Assist in managing the organization's web content.

  • Maintain a content calendar and tracker for Force Medical policy requirements.

  • Interface with outside agencies to obtain necessary reports and policies.

  • Create and manage a SharePoint-based electronic document library.

  • Provide monthly status reports on current projects.

  • Serve as a Force Medical historian, including preparing quarterly/annual reports.

  • Have experience with Federal Government systems and access requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. University (Master's preferred) in healthcare, science, technical, or business management.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing military publications in the last 10 years.

  • Current Basic Life Support certificate.

  • At least 1 year of experience with Microsoft Office products, especially SharePoint portal management.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods.

  • Using a computer for typing, editing, and research.

  • Occasional light lifting of office supplies or documents.

  • Maintaining good posture and eye comfort during computer work.
