Amentum Systems Engineer in China Lake, California

Mission Statement: The Conventional Prompt Strike Test Facility (CTF) contract supports the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), Weapons and Energetics Department in China Lake, CA and Crane, IN. We maintain the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, honesty and fairness in our relationships with our customers, suppliers, subcontractors and professional associates.

We are seeking an experienced engineer to be a technical leader and subject matter expert in a dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging research and development environment in support of one of our nation’s top defense priorities at China Lake. The one-of-a-kind test site is perpetually in a state of test execution, and planning and integration in preparation for the next test series. Critical aspects of this role are to lead the development of technical solutions to meet customer test requirements, develop engineering documentation, resolve technical and procedural issues, work closely with site technicians and field engineers to plan and execute complex site operations, and communicate status and issues across the broader program. This position requires initiative, teamwork, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. The team is multi-organizational and skills span from senior program managers to engineers, to on-site technicians, logistics, budget, and everything in-between. The environment is fast-paced and demands attention to detail while never losing site of the big picture

Typical salary range for this position is $127, 100.00 to $190,000.00 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position

Technical degree, BA/BS and 4 to 6+ years of related experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in an Engineering field are required

Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or similar is preferable

Experience in interface control / system level integration

Ability to work / collaborate across organizations and lead without organizational authority

Schedule management and development experience

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Previous experience with CAD, engineering drawings, and technical requirements

Ability to manage many competing priorities simultaneously

US Citizen, security clearance eligible

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

A successful candidate will effectively plan site operations from a technical perspective focusing on present day operations to out 6+ months. This involves technical knowledge of hardware, engineering documentation, and site operations to develop a technically sound plan, identify / mitigate risks, and then monitor execution of the plan. In an R&D testing environment, things often wrong, this role will need to identify issues, clarify the problems, communicate them, and work to develop solutions. This role requires strong judgement, effective communication skills, and an ability to respond to the unexpected. This role will work very closely with other program managers, engineers, documentation managers, logistics and procurement, and the customer to develop a plan, establish a plan, track key items, drive completion of milestones, adjust to issues, and monitor and communicate status. Experience in DOD-related test programs is preferred.

The desired skill set includes, but is not limited to:

• Develop and provide technical content to produce engineering drawings and documentation that support equipment integration, interface control, and site operations / procedures

• Conduct review, approval and audit of drawings, specifications, technical reports, and other engineering documentation for test program use.
