System One Director, Paper and Converting in Chillicothe, Ohio

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Operations for our client in Chillicothe, OH.

This is a direct hire (permanent), 100% onsite role.

Job Description

The Director, Paper & Converting is responsible for the safe, reliable, and profitable operations of the paper and converting areas which includes four paper machines with winders, off-machine coater, five sheeters, seven rewinders, plus multiple fiber make down, wrapping, and storage areas all within the specialty papers markets. This position is a member of the site leadership team. While providing day to day direction between areas, this position is to create the direction, provide leadership, and execute objectives to ensure the long-term success of the Chillicothe mill.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Create a safety culture with clear accountability to follow our policies and procedures.

  • Ensure protection of the environment by maintaining compliance to all environmental regulations.

  • Lead by example and provide leadership direction to implement and enhance our operational excellence model.

  • Ensure customers are satisfied through improving quality performance.

  • Drive increased productivity and reliability of operations especially with uptime, yields, and speed.

  • Optimize costs to serve customers through material usage and fixed costs.

  • Build the future of the mill through driving the most profitable mix and supporting product development.

  • Ensure a long-term future in infrastructure, reliability, improvement, and strategic capital projects.

  • Enhance our workforce through driving sustainable and effective training and development.

  • Build an effective team through development, placement, and recruitment.

  • Develop and manage budgets (staffing, operating and maintenance expenses, productivity, bill of materials), capital expenditures, and other strategic initiatives to support the Chillicothe operation.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, MBA a plus.

  • 10+ years pulp & paper manufacturing experience with progressive operational leadership positions, experience in a union environment a plus.

  • Excellent leadership, performance management, and communication skills that are effective at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong operational analysis skills to maximize profitability and productivity at optimal costs.

  • Deep understanding of operational excellence/continuous improvement systems.

  • Collaborative working style, with a natural ability to forge effective relationships with peers and key managers, often in the context of competing interests.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft office (such as Excel & PowerPoint) and process information systems (such as PI).

  • Flexible with time to support 24/7 mill needs including nights and weekends and being on site when needed.
