Highway Maintenance Craftsperson SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Department of Public Works\' Highway Division is hiring a Highway Maintenance Craftsperson to be responsible for maintaining roadways, sidewalks, lawns, trees, drains, sewer lines, and public infrastructure such as buildings. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE SOME OF THE FOLLOWING Perform excavation, bracing, sheet pilling and grading Fill potholes and cave-ins Maintains, cleans and construct sewers, catch basins, drains and manholes Actively participates in snow and ice removal operations Lays sewer pipe and house waste connections Constructs sidewalk forms and finishes concrete Supervises others and works, in the building and maintenance trades Other duties as assigned per the full job description QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: High school diploma or equivalent level of education (GED / HiSet); or a minimum of one month of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Class B Driver\'s license Knowledge and experience in construction, street and building maintenance, carpentry and/or other skilled crafts along with knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools. Must obtain a Massachusetts Class A Driver\'s License within one (1) year of hire Salary/Compensation Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Full-Time Salary: UFCW Laborer?s Union, Grade 08L, Step 05, Starting pay - \$20.69 + License(s) Expected Hours of Work This is a Full Time, 40 hours/week position, with a schedule of 7:00 AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Friday, with required flexibility for on-call and emergency situations.
