The opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and analytical Senior Transportation Analyst to join our team. This role will be responsible for the detailed understanding and analysis of carrier transportation rates, in order to drive cost reduction initiatives while ensuring optimal performance in transportation operations. This includes comparing rate proposals to existing carrier rates and modeling a variety of scenarios. Leveraging the detailed knowledge of our carrier partners and transportation rates, you will drive analyses to answer business questions and identify issues across our transportation businesses. When issues in rating or reconciliation come up, you will roll up your sleeves and dig into the reasons why. This investigation will involve multiple stakeholders and will leverage a combination of analytic skills and project management capabilities.

Our team works cross-functionally, which means you’ll be working closely with our internal finance and data science teams, as well as our external partners. At times, you may also be working with our product and engineering teams to reflect any changes necessary to the code base or data sources. It’s a complex environment, and our systems are constantly evolving, so we’ll be looking to you to help guide us.

You will:

  • Understand and analyze carrier rates and estimate the financial and operational impact of rate changes on the network.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to implement rate changes in Flexport system, perform rate validations using your knowledge of carrier rating logic.

  • Maintain the repository of carrier rate cards, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of updates.

  • Evaluate and model transportation carrier proposals to drive cost savings, improve delivery speed, and optimize network footprint.

  • Improve cost capture and reconciliation process by performing deep dives into transportation cost drivers, such as shipping surcharges.

  • Leverage a deep understanding of the last-mile network to accurately estimate transportation costs for upcoming years, including assumptions for industry trends, annual rate changes, etc., and provide support to the Pricing team by offering insights into carrier costs for domestic and international fulfillment.

  • Build and maintain dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) using SQL and data visualization tools.

  • Develop strong working relationships with your counterparts at external partners, leveraging these to understand and improve rate proposals.

  • Document business processes and create internal documentation (including process flow charts and S&OPs) to streamline operations and establish common terms and definitions.

You should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation analysis or cost management.

  • Strong systems and reporting skills (e.g. exceptional SQL and Excel skills).

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, model scenarios and draw actionable insights.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.

  • Experience in the logistics or supply chain industry is preferred.

  • A "compliance first" attitude to keep our regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport since we operate in a heavily regulated industry.
