Burns & McDonnell Senior Structural Engineer - Transportation (Chicago) in Chicago, Illinois

We are 100% employee-owned, with regional and project offices nationwide. Our transportation practice is seeking a staff civil roadway design engineer for our Chicago office.

Our ideal candidate is someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work well independently. In this position, you will be a part of a skilled team that values everyone’s contributions to a project.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the design of transportation projects with structural elements.

  • Performs tasks requiring applications of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Standard design of civil project work.

  • Assist team leaders (PM’s) with various project duties.

  • Serve as a team member on multidisciplined projects.

  • Works with senior staff on technical aspects of a project.

  • Attend project meetings when requested by the Department Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering a plus.

  • 7 years structural engineering experience, 12 preferred. EPC project experience preferred.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.

  • Must have a good understanding of structural design principles, or an aptitude to develop.

  • Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present information.

  • Knowledge of design software including MicroStation, MDX, Midas Civil, AASHTOWare, Leap Bridge, OpenBridge Designer, or other comparable design and modeling softwares.

  • Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Limited Travel to Support KC and other Regional Offices 10%
