We work with 1,250 school districts in 39 states and 8 Canadian provinces carrying approximately five million students in 21,000 schools daily.

Directs the operations of a Region comprised of multiple locations, geographically dispersed. Is responsible for the overall success of the Region in all functions.

Major Responsibilities

  • Drives the “First Student Way,” minimizing the variability within the Region.

  • Implements company safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with all safety-related laws and regulations and company policies. Provides strong safety leadership to region.

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of mission in the development and execution of a strategic business plan. Motivates others by establishing clear vision as to the needs necessary to ensure success in profit performance, client relations, and business development. Seeks and identifies new business relationships throughout the region.

  • Effectively interacts with others by demonstrating high degree of credibility, and is responsible for development of initiatives in support of, and development of subordinates.

  • Develops and monitors budget activity within the Region in order to ensure maximum Regional performance. Responsible for financial performance of Region.

  • Responsible for the management of the Region’s assets, and vehicle maintenance. Establishes effective business partnerships with internal departments.

  • Responsible for the direct supervision and coaching of Area General Managers ensuring company policies and procedures are implemented fairly and consistently and employees

  • Maintains excellent customer service relationship with Region’s customers Develops strategic and tactical objectives within the region which supports the company’s operating plan and customer initiatives.

  • Keeps abreast of governmental laws and regulations and ensures compliance within the Region.

  • Overall performance in the region for other functional areas such as finance, safety, maintenance, and human resources

  • Develops programs, ensures consistency in administration of company policies and procedures in order to ensure effective and positive employee relations and labor relations.

  • Supports and/or leads Driver recruiting and retention strategies within the Region in conjunction with Corporate Recruiting and Student Leadership.

Minimum Experience or Skills Required

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience

  • 10 years proven experience in passenger and/or student transportation or comparable service industry showing a consistent successful upward employment progression

  • 2+ years in an Area General Manager or equivalent management position with responsibility for multiple locations

  • Function effectively in a high paced, multi-site and multi-client environment

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively throughout all levels of the organization with audiences of varying degrees of familiarity with material

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills; ability to interact positively internally and externally

  • Demonstrate leadership, decision-making, and team building skills

  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills.

  • Strong business background in financial, strategic, and organizational analysis.

  • Candidates must reside in Northern Illinois.

  • Travel up to 50% of the time.
